Sam Mitchell on TSN SportsCentre

Currently a Radio and TV Sports Analyst, former NBA Player and Coach Sam Mitchell is renowned for his insightful sports commentary.  His unyielding work ethic, dedication and a high basketball IQ have earned Sam Mitchell a coveted spot among a distinguished class of athletes. Columbus High School’s graduate was inducted into the Georgia Sports Hall of Fame on Saturday, February 20, 2010.

Mitchell’s accomplishments include:

  • All City Honours at Columbus High School.
  • Record holder for all-time leading scorer at Mercer University (1,986 points)
  • Overseas exposure: Played in France before joining NBA.
  • Joined Timberwolves in 1989 (now second on their all-time scoring and rebounding list).
  • Assistant Coach with Milwaukee Bucks.
  • Assistant Coach with Charlotte Bobcats.
  • Head Coach of Toronto Raptors (5 years)
  • NBA Coach of the Year 2006-07

Perhaps it is Mitchell’s love for the game, commitment to excellence and tenacity which have attributed to his success (he spent three seasons in the Continental Basketball Association as well as two seasons in the French basketball league paying his dues before getting drafted). However, his 13-year NBA history has gained him a respectable reputation in the league as a student of the game. He is evidence that a dream, persistence, hard work, and patience cannot be defeated. The former head coach of the Toronto Raptors recently resigned as head assistant coach with the New Jersey Nets to take on new challenges in broadcasting.  He has been featured on NBA TV, Sirius Satellite Radio, CBS Radio, and TSN as well as many other networks.
